On the threshold of the Women's World Boxing Championships which will be opened in Astana on May 19 the Eurasian University invited its famous graduates, the members of the national boxing team Lyazzat Kungeybayeva and Saniya Sultankyzy to meet with students and teachers. By doing so the university wanted to express its moral support for the girls, giving them kindest words to encourage them in their fight for the world champion title.
The representatives of 64 countries will participate in the championships; a total of about 300 athletes are registered. Lyazzat, Saniya and eight other female athletes from Kazakhstan are ready to withstand a toughest competition; the best of the best will get the title of champion in each of the ten weight categories.
The most attention will be paid to the three "Olympic" weight categories – up to 51, 60 and 75 kilograms. The winners will not only be awarded with medals but also with Olympic licenses, and as early as in a few months they will represent their countries at the major quadrennial competitions in Rio.
Despite the athletes’ tight schedule, the students managed to have some time to talk with Saniya and Lyazzat, learned why the girls had engaged themselves in boxing, whether there are many women now who choose this sport and whether they meet prejudices on their way, which fights they remembered most, how they prepared themselves for the fight, even learned the peculiarities of the boxing diet - and finally promised to root for them and wished them victory.
